February Half Term 2014 Junior Training Week
Half Term in Alpbach was from Saturday 15 to Saturday 22 February with an average of 40 participants. The weather was a mix of cloud, snow and some sunshine. This enabled us to get some good off piste skiing. Due to lack of snow, it was not possible to hold our evening parallel slalom on the Böglerfeld – the snow looked good enough but the middle of the piste lacked sufficient depth to plant poles; instead our skiers and some parents and friends enjoyed a parallel slalom on the Mulden slope prepared by our instructors on Wednesday morning.
Our end of week race was a GS held on the Inneralpbach slope from above the track to the Finish Hut – Gerhard set a good course set with 20 gates and a 125m Vertical Drop. We had 42 Children and 39 Open Race Entries and there were some really good results in both the AVSC and the Open Race especially when age and the relatively little experience of some our young skiers is taken into consideration. The club believes individual improvement is as important as the actual race results and by this measurement we had a very successful week.
Each year it is more and more difficult to select our “most improved” nominations as there are so many potential candidates. Well done Charlie Saker, Frankie Walker, Callum Armstrong, Louisa Neill who were all chosen as most improved in their classes. The overall most improved girl was Aleena Razzaq and boy was Joe Lister, also fastest on the day. Congratulations also to Isabella Salerno our speediest girl and a special well done to all the weenies and those taking part on a challenging race piste for the first time, they all did really well on our longer race course.
Our thanks to our great team of instructors Tweety, Christian, Jamie, Kate, George and Olivia and to Gerhard for setting and maintaining the race piste on Friday.
The results are available to download Here - we thank you all for your continued support and warn some of the parents that their children really are closing in.
