Easter Training and Club week, Easter 2013
We had a great course for our races on Friday 29 March: 170m vertical drop through 23 gates. 72 AVSC trainees and 74 Open Race entrants raced the course and our thanks go to Tweetie and his team for setting such a good course and maintaining it with continuous track sliding, ensuring conditions were as good as possible for the late runners. A real achievement in Inneralpbach so late in the season.
For many, this must have been a hugely daunting course, so well done all especially those with less experience and our younger skiers. Our beginners also did extremely well starting lower but racing through 13 gates with a vertical drop of 90m.
AVSC likes the competitive element of a race and there are some really good results especially when age and experience is taken into account, while for others found a lack of concentration and small mistakes cost them valuable time. Congratulations to our new Club Champions, Sam Stourton and Alexa Barrow – great to have new names on our cups.
The success of the week is not just about race results and is more about improvement and on this benchmark the week was also a huge success. Thanks for this goes to our great team of Instructors who under Tweety put in so much extra time during the week to ensure it ran smoothly. The Junior Training Committee [JTC] understands that racing is not for everyone but seeing how trainees tackle the course is another way of assessing improvement during the week; turns have to be made at specific points and we see how these are tackled so it was good to see all of our trainees do so well on a competitive race piste – well done all.
The improvement we saw during the week made selection of our class and overall most improved boy and girl a real challenge so we congratulate Gregor Hawkes, Freddy Martin, Flora Dalrymple, Aiko McEwan Jönsson, Guy Whitby, Lucy Wisher Saskia Hammersley, Tage McEwan Jönsson, Oliver Reed and especially our overall winners Daisy de Normann and Charlie York.
Special thanks to Paula and Jeremy Walker for their continued sponsorship of our Most Improved award and to our partner and sponsor Sepp and the Alpbach Ski School, our relationship spans over 40 years and grows stronger by the year and last but not least, Konny of Conny’s Sport for his support over many years.
